Daily Five!!

This year we have started using the Daily 5 reading and language arts program in our Kindergarten classroom.  I have been so thrilled with how we are doing.  Daily 5 consists of 5 reading/writing choices that the kids get to choose.  They may go to Read-To-Self, Work-On-Writing, Read-To-Someone, Working-With-Words, and Listen-To-Reading.  While the students are working in the area of their choice, that frees me us to work with small reading and writing groups.  So far we have had a lot of fun, and I have already seen some improvements in the some of the writing.  Way to go Kindergarten!!

Colors!!

We have been working the last couple weeks on our colors and color words.  So for math, we sorted our math tubs into color groups!!  We had so much fun working with a partner, and putting colors into groups. It seems that we are a group of color and sorting experts!!

Ask your kindergartner to sort some things at home!!  They could use buttons, mixed beans, stickers, or noodles.  Have fun!!

Learning our letters!!

In kindergarten we have many fun ways to learn our letters!!  This week we have been working on the letter "Ii".  We know an "Ii" song, made an "Ii" book, and brainstormed lots of "Ii" words.  We even got to use shaving cream to practice writing our "Ii"!!
